I went to Comdex last year and didn't attend the Linux Expo, not for $500.
When compared to the Usenex Technical Conference with its Freenex tracks,
papers and tutuorials (if you wish to spend a week); the Linux Expo in current
form doesn't have a chance. IMHO.
Further, I have no idea of purpose and audience for such an event. I would
think something such as a GNU Circus where one has available all the different
flavors and flavor vendors in a smaller less expensive venue might have a
better chance. Maybe some tours of GNU sites, i.e. FermiLabs beowulf cluster
might make for an interesting side trip during the event.
Another problem is that since most of this software is available at no charge
many developers have no incentive to attend and peddle their product and
expertise.
Perhaps something along the lines of Linux Fest on a larger scale may have
more attraction. And for the really hardcore one might have an installation
competition such that the parameters are not revealed until the contest
begins. For instance build, configure test a working 100 host server and
sendmail installation.
Anyway enough said. I think you get the idea. Petra
