    Not necessarily so with Compaq, but probably so with this one. I have run across Compaq using it's own 'pre-format' (I think it has to do with the firmware?) that uses different block sizes (516 vs. 512). Look at the other drive to be sure and then if this is nothing unusual about it go for the cheaper solution. One of my associates tried to use a non-Compaq drive in one of our servers (S4400) and it was a loss... We had to get a Compaq Drive anyway. Still... for the money, I would try a reg. scsi anyway.
