    I know you already found the cause and got this running, but everyone keeps
    referring to the "pop3" port. Try "grep pop /etc/services", and see if the
    name isn't actually spelled "pop-3" (I have no idea if the spelling varies
    between different distros/OSes).

    There are a few others with port names defined there that may surprise you.
