No, newbie questions are good. The list has grown to amazing numbers lately
and we all have our own levels of experience. Asking newbie questions
allows those who might otherwise not get the chance to participate and
give-back to the list. :)

Usually once a month, but we've (somewhat) recently merged several lists
into one, so I'm pretty sure that there are factional meetings more often
than that.

Especially since you are just starting, I would get rid of the RH7.0 and go
with something perhaps more standardized. RH7 has some key problems with
it, and I personally wouldn't suggest learning on it...
The most obvious example is that they shipped with an incompatible version
of gcc (GNU C Compiler), which means any C hacks written to work on RH7
WON'T be compatible with other versions of gcc (the stable versions that all
the other distros use). If you really want to stay with RH, I'd suggest 6.2
for the time being, 'til they get their s*it straight. Otherwise, I would
suggest Mandrake7.1, or 7.2;
Mandrake is FANTASTIC for the first time user and is *probably* the most fun
of any of the distros. It uses RPM, optimized for i586 (as opposed to i386)
and has awesome RPM support from it's community...
No, I don't work for Mandrake, nor would I use it as a server in a
production environment (yet, give'm a few months until the 8.1 release :) );
but for home use, and learning the ropes, it's fantastic.
As far as sites...
google.com/linux
linuxdoc.org
frankenlinux.com
industrial-linux.org
linuxnewbie.org
and, although it would be nice if they would get the MAILING LIST ARCHIVES
up and running...
