Next message: Michael Kalecki: "Re: [LUNI] Free Windows based x servers"
Hello all--
Nothing is going on this weekend on my campus. I'm going to be bored to
tears. So, as a result, I'm thinking of starting a programming project.
The problem is, I'm not sure if it's possible. Regardless of whether or
not it's even possible, I doubt I'll see it through until the end, but
we'll see how far I can get in a weekend. Here's my questions:
1) Is it possible to change color depth in X without restarting the X
server? From the command line?
2) Anyone know how to, with a command line command, find out what
resolution and color depth X is running at?
3) What other stats can I find out about X from the command line? Can I
find out what memory usage is? What driver is being used?
I want to write a control panel type script or application (or a
hybrid type thing) that will display stats on X and change color depth and
res if possible. I know about xvidtune, but I want to be able to do a
bit more than it can do, and/or modernize it by using QT or GTK.
Keep in mind, that I think this is probably a bit ambitious for a weekend
for me, and I know I'll never get this done, but hey, it's something to
keep me occupied until my SQL test on Monday :)
