Is there a limitation on the location of the boot loader on alpha?
This might be symptom of the problem on x86.

Well, I'm proud of myself. I figured out how to make the RH7 installer
boot and launch on my alpha here... BUT I'm not managing to be able to get
the installer to get anywhere beyond detecting the mouse, or writing the
partition tables. The situations are as follows:

    Booting with mouse plugged in:
The machine behaves normally after I type boot (cdrom device, I dont'
remember it's scsi id) I then choose option 0 for the normal kernel
install. And it continues till it trys to start anaconda. Then it trys to
detect the mouse type, and stays there. it just appears to lock up.

    Booting with no mouse:
Goes till it tells me it can't detect a mouse. I tell it to use text mode.
This is fine untill disk druid, it appears to not write the partition table
information, because the machine will still boot to Ultrix after a reboot.
The installer continues past the disk druid, I choose the time zone. Then
it asks for the root password, I give it one, and then the page disapears
and it remains on the base blue screen indefinitely.

Well those are my stumbling blocks. I'm really enjoying playing with this
alpha, it's not that much of a machine, but for free, it can't be beat.
It's configured with a fiber channel ethernet card, a 10baseT card, 64 megs
of ram, 2gig scsi hd, and a scsi cdrom. I'm fully prepared to bring it to
the next installfest if we have anyone who knows how to work with alpha's
    :)
