What sort of hardware is it on? What are you using for the install? CD-Rom, Linuxcare boot disk
slink, potato? I've never used the MD5 passwords, do they maybe require an 8 letter minimum?
I've seen the Linucare bootdisk do funny things on some hardware, but like Martin says by that
point in the install you usually have a console up on a different screen. Try it without MD5
maybe, you can probably install it as an afterthought.
