    Oh, well, seriously. I dunno. I've had a few Debian install travails over
    the years, mostly due to some lack of perfect understanding, or a delusion
    that I knew where that ISA NIC card was addressed. :-) Never seen one like
    that.

    Do you have the option to flip to another console and get a shell there? I
    don't think I've ever tried to do that at just that point. Nor am I
    terrifically sure what you should look for if you can, but it's at least a
    possible source of insight.

    Obvious hack-ish thoughts: if you're taking MD5 and/or shadow, try not doing
    so. Uhm, that's all so far.
