Being a glutton for punishment, I am trying to install Debian once
again. I've gotten further this time...

I've installed the base system on the root partition and rebooted.
I get the prompts for MD5 and Shadowed passwords. I get the message for
the root password. So I entered one and verified it. But I am taken back
to the root password screen again. An infinite loop, arrrgggghhh!

Why won't Debian let me continue? I'm entering a root password of
6 characters with a mix of alpha and numeric characters. My password
doesn't match any known English word. How do I get out of this mess?
