I must recommend a linux router

http://lrp.c0wz.com/ (or one of its mirrors)

and the easiest image http://lrp.steinkuehler.net/ (I used the eigerstein image)

Essentially, you use a old (really old) machine (i.e. 486 or more, with 16 MB
of ram), take out (or disconnect the hard drive, cd drive...) put in 2 NICs
($9.99/ea. microcenter). The whole thing boots from floppy.

    It does:
DHCPclient (if you don't have a static IP)
    DNS cache (saves DNS queries)
    NAT (masquerades your private network)
DHCPd (i.e. its a DHCP server, for your private network)
    Port Forwarding
Good firewall out of the box (you can implement seawall and others)
all kinds of extra stuff too

Depending on how long it takes you to download stuff, you could be up and
    running in a 20 mins.

In addition to how easy it is, the nice thing is that you don't have to worry
about "hardening" a normal disto to be your firewall
